Your Arenal Volcano and rainforest tour begins with an air-conditioned ride from your Guanacaste resort, during which you’ll be taking in stunning views of the rainforest. You’ll arrive to the Arenal Tilaran Conservation Area, a 790-square-mile national park that’s home to alluring flora and fauna. The star of this tour is, of course, the still active Arenal Volcano, which last erupted in 1968 and continues to tower over the gorgeous landscape of northern Costa Rica. Explore jungles and volcanic hot springs Expert guides will greet you and prepare you for the hike, which begins at the foothills of the volcano. Passing through the conservation area, you’ll also make your way toward incredible views of the towering volcano and the greenery of the area that’s dubbed ‘The Jewel of the Earth’. As you continue your trek in the park, you can encounter 850 different bird species, as well as fauna like Capuchin monkeys, jaguars, coati raccoons, tapir hogs, and even serpents like the parrot snake. Continue your hike toward natural hot springs near a calm waterfall, where you’re welcome to take a well-earned dip and relax after all the walking. Visit the richest (and luckiest!) town in Costa Rica Next up, get back in your vehicle for the second part of your Arenal Volcano and rainforest tour. You’ll reach the small town of La Fortuna, which, as its name suggests, is fortunate to be surrounded by such majestic nature. Fun fact: the town actually received its name — meaning ‘Fortune’ — after being spared during an eruption of the Arenal Volcano. Enjoy lunch in this small town filled with well-manicured gardens and landscapes.
